The start of a new year means downtime for a couple months before the tracks open. This is good, because I have time to work on the project car, which is in need of a few things right now. It has a blown head gasket and needs some suspension work. Once that’s all done, I’ll be adding an intercooler and getting it tuned again on a smaller pulley. Goals for the car this year are the custom intercooler setup, 3.0 or 2.8 pulley, Nitrous, E-85 and a solid tune.
A new daily driver was aquired so I can garage the project a little bit more. Its a 05 Grand Prix GT1, pretty basic. Sport Red Metallic just like the project. I bought it with some damage, but it’s fixed up now and good to go.
For media this year, I plan on upgrading my gopro or just purchasing a hd hero 2. They have better night output among other great features. Depending on how deep into the project car I go, I might get a nice camera too, but that’s up for debate.
As far as events, I will be going to Rod Run on Easter, Pontiac Nationals in August, besides that, nothing is set in stone yet.
I just wanted to put a quick update out. Keep posted for more.
Last weekend was GrandPrixForums.Net ‘s Kansas City, Missouri meet. I’d say at peak we had 35 people there, but it was a good time. We spent some time Friday night and Saturday at Kansas City International Raceway. Some Grand Prix’s ran some slow times, then we adventured. Brandon had to get some Vagisil, Blue Nick had to get some Midol. A bartender took away our beer at the hotel bar. We blocked Austins car with cones and a bench. All in all it was a good gathering, and I’m looking forward to next year.
On October 16th, in a 15 car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the world lost Indy car racer Dan Wheldon. His car was sent airborn, and he ended up hitting the catch fence, which was later blamed in part for his death. He was only 33.
Today a crash in MotoGP lead to the loss of Marco Simoncelli. It looked like he had lost consciousness before swerving in front of other riders. In the accident, his helmet fell off. He was only 24.
I want to express my condolences for the racers families. These two up and coming stars of their sports will be greatly missed.
Rest in Peace Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli.
August 13th was 1320video.com’s annual Ice Cream Cruise in Omaha, Nebraska. There were what I would estimate to be 1500+ cars. The felt the need to come and regulate after the cruise. An attempt was made to race, however the cops came shortly after arriving at around 10 different spots. I think I saw 3 races all night besides the roll races during the cruise. Then the Lincoln folk decided to bash the Omaha racing scene.
August 20th StarCityRacing.com had their annual cruise. Again, the cruise was good, but racing was quickly broken up. I got a few videos with the gopro that I will try to edit and post soon.
August 21st was the 29th Annual Pontiac/ GMC/ Oakland show in Omaha, Nebraska. They announced that next year will be the last for the show. There was talk of having the “30 and out” event in Kansas City, Mo. Lots of nice cars came to this show including an old GTO body on a new GTO frame, a “2013 Trans Am” made by a company called “Restore a Muscle Car” out of Lincoln, Nebraska. It was a good show, with only about 180 cars.
Myself and Aweb80 set off on an adventure to Iowa for a Grand Prix meet put together by GrandPrixForums.net It was a shitty rainy weekend, but we had a good time. Friday we arrived in Charles City and checked in at the “Best Budget Inn” Which was a pink motel. The rooms were dirty and the shower may or may not have been a time machine. We then went to another guys house to watch while headers were installed and drank around a trash can bonfire. Protip: Finish your beer before throwing it into a fire. Saturday morning we went back and hung out some more while we waited for everyone to arrive. After everyone showed up, we ventured to Waterloo. During the drive I was taking some rolling road shots in the rain at 65-70 miles per hour. It sucked, but most of the pictures came out pretty good. Once we arrived we checked in at the Ramada and went to Becks for some delicious food and good looking waitresses before going bowling. We then went back to the hotel for some drinking. Sunday morning we went to Ihop for breakfast. After we got some food, we took another set of photos before our little convoy went on its way home.
So… Last Sunday was Easter, which meant that the 35th annual Creston Rod Run was happening. This was my first time going to this particular event, and unfortunately the Nebraska State Patrol felt the need to employ about 20+ officers to follow us from town to town in about 15 cop cars as well as an Airplane and Helicopter. It was EXTREMELY overdone on their part. I have written the Nebraska State Patrol an e-mail on Monday asking questions in regards to the amount of tax payer dollars spent on Easter for the event vs the amount of revenue gained by the tickets issued (which as far as I know at this point is 1 ticket for a burnout, 1 for speeding and 2 for no front plate). It is now creeping into Thursday and I still haven’t gotten a response, nor do I expect to.
Even though there were no burnouts as I was expecting from previous years, it was still a great car show and opportunity to meet some new people. I have pics up in the gallery which can be found here: http://www.potenzamotorsports.com/photos/v/RodRun2011/
Project car update: It runs. Besides that it has some things to work out still… I’m hoping to have it 100% for the Easter Rod Run, but we will see how that goes.
I recently acquired Sony Vegas Pro 10 and Sony Acid Pro 7, so I have been playing with those a little bit. I made a sample intro using some loops I found at looperman.com and made a quick simple intro. So here’s what I’ve got so far, if anybody has any suggestions feel free to comment! It is even in HD!
I uploaded a few old videos I was able to pull from my streetfire.net page since I can’t find the originals. I was shocked to see that my streetfire account had over 10,000 views with the low quality videos I made back in 06-07. My favorite is a slide show from world of wheels that I shot on I believe it was a 5 megapixel Sony point and shoot. My second favorite was a burnout video that was the only video I was unable to view or download, so I am hoping I am able to find that one later.
Speaking of World of Wheels, it will be at Qwest Center Omaha March 18th- 20th. http://www.autorama.com/casi/show/spectator/omaha.php.
I am planning on going to do a shoot and will make a slideshow mixed with some video.
The first local meet was put on by 1320video.com in support of their new T-shirts. The shirts were delivered the day prior and were not done right, so they were unavailable however the meet went on without. It was incredibly cold once the sun went down so I didn’t get any pics accept for a couple of Joe’s bagged Nissan pickup which are in the Random 2011 album.
I’ve also torn down the GP and due to an issue with AutoPartsDealer.com I am working with the BBB, whom Auto Parts Dealer has an F rating already, to get money back for a timing chain I ordered a month ago. Not having the timing chain put a damper on my build time, however I have ordered from ZZPerformance, so all should be good soon and I should be hitting the 1/4 mile on April 1st as originally planned. Lesson learned: If the price of something is too good to be true, it probably is.
Tonight I got an album uploaded in about half the time it took on my old GoDaddy page. The photos are of the Photoshoot for Paige Motycka. I still need to clean up the folder, but it is live for anyone who wants to check it out.
I also Uploaded the second GoPro HD Wide test video I made to the new Potenza Motorsports Youtube page. That video can be seen below.
